Home Safety Outside
Quick Tips:
Steps around your home.
Clear Pathways, cut back overgrowth
Hand rails on at least one side of the path.
Keep Pathways Clear.
Keeping our homes safe starts with the little things. Are the pathways around your home free of obstructions?
Shrubbery and bushes are constantly growing. Sometimes its hard to keep up. When we aren’t able to get to our gardening, even for a couple of months, our wonderful outdoors can become a hazard.
Walk your landscape. Any shrub, bush, or plant that is even right on the border of your path should be cut back, at least 4 inches, probably best for 6 inches. Remove any stones or sticks that have fallen into the pathway. Weeds that have made their way into the path should be up rooted. Any limbs from random trees growing down or up into our path, please cut them back.
Lets look at the path itself. Is the walkway even? Any lifting sections of sidewalk or large stones we always avoid. Best to remove or get fixed. Anything you have taught yourself to avoid, like that irrigation tubing that was run across the walkway, should be resolved. Most dangers and items that cause injury were known items prior to the mishap.
